When we come to the fork in the road, should we choose to turn to the left or right?

The photograph shows me walking in the Great Smoky Mountains last summer. The companion to my left, with whom I am in convivial conversation, is none other than Quickbeam, the boisterous Ent. It was hard to keep up with the arboreal pace he set and the the speed of his entish wit. A very hasty Ent if ever there was one!
