As a follow-up to my recently posted essay on Shakespeare in the Public Schools, I thought that this image says it all. It’s so obvious and simple but too complicated for most public school teachers. What Chesterton said about his own work is even more applicable to Shakespeare: “It doesn’t matter how much I try to make the point of a story stick out like a spike, the critics will still go and impale themselves on something else.”
